Emma’s Journey of Faith: A Pilgrimage to Feed Children in Need
Walking for a Cause
Hello! I’m Emma, a 22-year-old from Kerry, Ireland, and I’m currently in my final year of International Business at the University of Limerick. I’m passionate about travel, and for the past three summers, I’ve worked on a small island off the coast of Dubrovnik, Croatia. Today, I’m excited to share my fundraising journey for Mary’s Meals.
I first learned about Mary’s Meals during my first pilgrimage to Medjugorje in April.
It wasn’t until my second visit, however, that I felt a real call to action. One afternoon, after praying in the Adoration Chapel, I opened my eyes to find a man wearing a bright blue Mary’s Meals t-shirt sitting in front of me. It felt like a sign!
I immediately visited the Blue Container to learn more and was deeply moved by the charity’s work.
Mary’s Meals feeds over 2 million children in some of the world’s poorest regions. They provide a daily meal for children, encouraging them to attend school and focus on their studies. This simple act not only nourishes their bodies but also empowers them with the education to break the cycle of poverty. Even more inspiring, all volunteers are local, which keeps costs low and provides employment in the community. It costs just 11 cents to feed a child for a day, and €22 can feed a child for an entire year.
The idea came after watching Child 31: The Story of Mary’s Meals and receiving advice from my mom to “exert myself” for a good cause (as moms always do!).
Medjugorje has had a profound impact on my faith, and this pilgrimage is a way for me to give back. I feel blessed to be able to offer this walk as a prayer of gratitude for the graces I’ve received this year.
If you feel moved to support, whether through prayer or a donation, I’d be deeply grateful. Together, we can make a difference for children in need.
Every step counts. Support Emma’s pilgrimage and provide meals for children through Mary’s Meals
